Lake Powell Itinerary
Lake Powell is easily reached from Cave Lakes Canyon by traveling 70 miles east on US-89. Head for Wahweap Marina, the largest marina on the lake, where you'll find full-service amenities such as restaurants, boat launches and rentals, and a pristine beach. The turn-off for the marina is just over the Utah border, about six miles north of Page, Arizona.

At Wahweap you can arrange a guided boat tour of Lake Powell to Rainbow Bridge National Monument. Rainbow Bridge is about 50 lake miles northeast. The hike from the boat dock to Rainbow Bridge is about one mile. Plan at least half a day for this must-do excursion: a two-hour boat ride there, one hour at Rainbow Bridge, and two hours back.

Keep in mind when scheduling tours that Wahweap Marina operates on Arizona time. Shorter length tours include the 2.5-hour Canyons Adventure Boat Tour to Navajo and Antelope Canyons, with a great view of Glen Canyon Dam, or a 1.5-hour tour to Antelope Canyon only. Antelope Canyon is located on the Navajo Nation reservation, and is one of the most beautiful slot canyons on the southwestern side of the Lake. If you choose to visit on foot, be sure to arrange for a Navajo guide into the high-walled slot canyon. Shorter boat tours allow for time to visit Glen Canyon Dam, which is located just a few miles south of the Utah border and Wahweap Marina near Page, AZ. A tour of the visitor center takes about 45 minutes and includes exhibits, maps, and history. But if you're simply looking for a serene afternoon, Lone Rock Beach is one of the most accessible beaches coming from Cave Lakes Canyon/Kanab. Located just past Big Water, UT, the pristine sand beach offers swimming and boating access, as well as incredible views of the massive Lone Rock rising from the lake. Lone Rock Beach is an ideal place to spend a relaxing day on Lake Powell.

On your return trip to Cave Lakes Canyon be sure to check out the white sandstone hoodoos at Wahweap, accessible via a 9.2-mile roundtrip hike from Big Water, and the darker Rimrock Hoodoos bordering Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
