Lake Powell
Gorgeous Lake Powell lies 70 miles east of Cave Lakes Canyon via US-89. The 186-mile lake straddles the Utah/Arizona border, but falls mainly within Utah. Lake Powell has nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline, more than the United States' entire west coast. With the red rock Navajo Mountains creating a brilliant backdrop for the sparkling blue waters of Lake Powell, it just doesn't get much more scenic than this.

Second largest

Man-made lake Lake Powell is the second largest man-made lake in the United States, completed in 1963 as part of the Glen Canyon Dam project. The lake took 17 years to fill and is fed by the Colorado, Green, San Juan, Escalante and Dirty Devil Rivers. Lake Powell was named for Major John Wesley Powell who explored and mapped the area in 1869.

About three million annual visitors
flock to Lake Powell and its scenic shoreline for boating, sea kayaking, fishing, swimming, sightseeing and to explore the 96 canyons in and around the lake. Arguably the best way to experience Lake Powell is by boat, whether you bring your own or rent one. Houseboats are also available for rent and are one of the most popular forms of lodging on Lake Powell.

Rainbow Bridge
Lake Powell's crown jewel is Rainbow Bridge, the world's largest natural bridge. Rainbow Bridge stands 290 feet high, spans 270 feet across, and is 42 feet thick. The Navajo revered this natural wonder and called it Nonnoshoshi, meaning "rainbow turned to stone." Rainbow Bridge was virtually inaccessible until the creation of Lake Powell. Today it can be reached via unpaved roads on the Navajo Nation reservation south of Lake Powell or, more popularly, by boat. Boat tours and scenic flights over Rainbow Bridge are available from Wahweap Marina. Wahweap Marina is the largest marina on Lake Powell, offering every amenity from restaurants to rentals. The marina is just six miles from Page, AZ, a popular launch area and the site of the Glen Canyon dam. Big Water is the last town in Utah before you reach the lake. Just past Big Water, Lone Rock Beach is one of the most accessible beaches coming from Cave Lakes Canyon/Kanab. The pristine sand beach offers swimming and boating access, as well as incredible views of the massive Lone Rock rising from the lake.
